We had our first frost on Thursday. Waking up at 8 ish we were greeted by a freshness that suggested we had left the window open over night. We had not. It has taken us this long into the week to settle and relax and no longer wake at our normal 6am. It is a nice feeling but then it is one that is immediately followed by the thoughts of I should have done this earlier in the week to I should make sure we wake earlier tomorrow so it’s no hard to get up come Monday when we are back to work. Should, should should. Too many shoulds. I want to ban it from my vocab. The week has unfolded in a gift of wants when I actually look at it. Lots of wants actually. So many wants that I realised it was Thursday and despite composing random sentences in my head all week I discovered that I had not actually written my newsletter. So in a mad dash that is my want, here is a list of things we did in the week of wants
Of course Gardening. Lots of gardening. At least two hours a day when the weather allowed. A few beds have been tidied up. Lots of bulbs have been planted into pots. Trees pruned. Seedlings pricked out into bigger pots. Many muddy paw prints in the house.
Reading. I had just finished reading “A month in Siena” and found it has become my inspiration for any week away from work and I am staying in one place for the duration of the week. I love the idea of sinking into a place and watching the unfolding daily routines one creates. Also read ‘Dare I say it, everything I wished I’d known about menopause ’ by Naomi Watts & “We need your art” by Amie McNee and started “Uprooting” by Marchelle Farrell. All marvelous books.
Creative routines. I finished my poetry course and now have a new notebook to note my musings on nature. I want it to become a daily 5 or 10 minutes to capture some connection, big or small ,with nature. Speaking of 5 to 10 minutes, from my readings, I picked up the idea of allocating 5 or 10 minutes over a two week period to work on a creative project you know you might not finish. It’s a good way to turn up and just do a bit without feeling overwhelmed by deadlines.
Played. Played with the camera without any set goals. Namely using the Snapseed ap to do some double exposure. The image here is one I shared on my Instagram page.
Just enjoyed having time to potter, eat well, walk dogs on beaches, visiting exhibitions, having coffees and cake. We just generally meandered through the days.
I hope you had a lovely Easter break and did as you want.
