Little patches of white appear across the valley and I am pleased to see them. The Kanuka is finally flowering. It means the honey flow has started. It means the bees will finally settle after a very mad swarm season. This madness culminated on Friday when I watched a swarm leave the hive in our garden, move about a bit and then return to the hive - the worker bees had left without the queen and then when the weather changed and it started to rain, they wisely returned to the hive.
The honey flow starting usually means a break for us and it normally co insides with Christmas. We will be embracing it fully as I am sure most of you will be. Relaxing, reading, eating and just enjoy company of family and friends.
I want to take this moment to say thank you. Thank you for turning up and reading my words. For kind comments and for your support. It means more than I can say and I forever grateful to have a space where I can share my words, images and garden, not forgetting the two Airedales. I am looking forward to a new year and to sharing and celebrating more of all the good things in my garden with you.
May your end of year celebrations be filled with love and happiness.
Have you read Wintering by Katherine May Mel... There is a bit about bees and it made me thin of you. I can't quite remember it now, but this post reminded me that there was something in the analogy she drew which touched me in a way that I found surprising gievn my feelings about bees, a bit like yours does here.xx
Happy holidays! Enjoy your blooms---we're getting a polar vortex! Deep cold!
